The next edition of The Factory, organised by Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, will take place in the North of Portugal. The project will lead to the French festival premiering four short films, produced in Portugal by Portuguese and international directors working with crews made up of local professionals.
Supported by Porto City Council and Filmaporto – Film Commission, in the North of Portugal Factory four directors from the North region — André Guiomar, Mariana Bártolo, Mário Macedo and Melanie Pereira — have been invited to work with four international filmmakers — Alex Mironesco (Romania), Dornaz Hajiha (Iran), Guillermo Garcia Lopez (Spain) and Mya Kaplan (Israel) — on writing and directing four short films. Shooting will begin in March with local crews and production support from Bando à Parte.
The films will have their world premieres at the 55th edition of Directors’ Fortnight, which runs from 16 to 27 May in France. During the festival, the eight selected filmmakers will have the opportunity to present their past work and one feature film in development to members of the international film industry.
This artistic residency, founded in 2013 by Dominique Welinsk, takes place annually in different countries with the aim of promoting the work of emerging directors and stimulating cultural encounters in film. Previous editions include Taipei Factory, Nordic Factory, Chile Factory, South Africa, Lebanon Factory, Tunisia Factory and South East Europe.
